ELON, N.C. – Gardner-Webb completed its season opener meet on Friday night at Elon University. The women's raced a 4K while the men competed in a 6K. The women finished in eighth after beating Winthrop on a tiebreaker. The men's team ended in 11th.
Amy Prugh led the women's team finishing in 40
th with a time of 15:47, just a nudge under 4 minutes per kilometer. Three runners finished during the 16-minute mark,
Hannah Mitchell at 16:07,
Faith Parandhamaia at 16:16,
Taylor Robinson had a 16:23, and
Jennifer Escalera completed the race at 16:55.
Ashley Eavenson had a 17:02 and
Camille Sykes in 17:12 to round out the team's top seven.
Chloe McDaniel finished at 17:39 and
Brooklyn Tretter at 18:15.
Ryan Morita finished first for Gardner-Webb at 20:49 followed closely behind by
Patrick Sastre at 20:53 each with sub 3:30/K pace.
Joe Waller ended in 61
st at 22:02.
Matthew Cloninger finished next at 23:43 and
Mark Mellon completed the race in 25:57.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return for a race at Winthrop on September 18.
