CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb sophomore forward Alasia Smith (Johnson City, Tenn.) has been named the Big South Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played January 3-9.

Smith helped the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 2-0 week with 15.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 2.5 assists and a 66.7 field goal percentage in wins over Charleston Southern and Radford.  Against CSU last Wednesday, she had 12 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.  In Saturday's 77-74 win at Radford, Smith posted a double-double of 19 points (tied for the team high) and 14 boards, along with six steals and a blocked shot.  For the week, she was 12-of-18 from the field (=66.7 percent) and grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.

The Johnson City, Tennessee native is currently on a hot streak. Since opening conference play, Smith has logged four consecutive double-doubles.

This is Smith's 6th Big South weekly honor of her career, as she was named Freshman of the Week five times throughout the 2020-21 season.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action tomorrow Tuesday, January 11 at home inside Paul Porter Arena as they are set to take on UNC Asheville. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the action will stream on ESPN+ and the airwaves on the Runnin' Bulldogs Sports Network.
