CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – RJ Mosley battled to a seventh-place finish at 165 pounds to highlight Gardner-Webb's weekend on the mats at the prestigious 2022 Southern Scuffle presented by Compound Sportswear.

The annual clash of some of the nation's top competitors saw Mosley get off to a quick start, posting a 12-1 major decision over Northern Colorado's Nick Knutson in Saturday's opening bout. He followed with a clutch, 3-2 decision over Virginia Tech's Clayton Ulrey to advance into the quarterfinals against North Dakota State's nationally-ranked Luke Weber.

The two engaged in an epic battle, with Weber scoring a late point to win in Tiebreak 2 (2-1).

Mosley rebounded well, handling NC State's Donald Cates for a 5-1 decision, before falling to Iowa wrestler Patrick Kennedy by an 8-3 score in the consolation semifinals. Mosley was set to face off with No. 18 Thomas Bullard of NC State in the seventh-place match, and earned that trophy via medical forfeit.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action in less than a week, traveling to Lexington, Va., for a SoCon battle at VMI on January 8. Gardner-Webb will also wrestle Bloomsburg (Pa.) that afternoon in Lexington.

GWU will then hit the road for matches at Bellarmine (Ky.) on January 16 and Appalachian State on January 25 before closing out the month at home vs. Chattanooga on January 28.
