BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb made quick work of Radford on Friday night, sweeping the Highlanders in straight sets, 3-0, at home inside Paul Porter Arena.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (5-14; 3-4 Big South) took down Radford (6-13; 2-5 Big South) in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-15, in order.
GWU was stellar from start to finish, concluding the night attacking at a .265 clip, its second-best mark of the season. The 'Dawgs posted 11 more kills than Radford (41-30), three more service aces (5-2), six more assists (36-30) and eight more digs (49-41) while holding the Highlanders to just a .114 clip.
Avery Cole led the way for Gardner-Webb on the attack, hitting a career-high .600 en route to a team-high 10 kills.
McKenna Timmerman hit .296 and added nine kills, the same tally that teammate
Kylee Garrison finished with. Garrison also added nine digs to just miss out on a double-double.
Delaney McCullough had a big performance at middle blocker as the senior added seven kills, three digs and two blocks, tied for a team-high with
Morgan Hornaday, who also led the way with 31 assists to go along with seven blocks. She also logged a service ace, as did
Sophia Bolden,
Kayla Hawkins and
Sophia Kotsovolos, the latter of whom led the Runnin' Bulldogs with 12 digs, followed by another nine from Hawkins.
The win for GWU is its third in Big South play this season, which is tied for fourth in the conference along with Charleston Southern and USC Upstate, who the Runnin' Bulldogs already beat earlier in the league slate.
Gardner-Webb will return to action on Saturday, October 15 when it hosts High Point. The Panthers currently sit at 6-1 against Big South competition this season. Opening serve is slated for 4 p.m. inside Paul Porter Arena.
