RALEIGH, N.C. – Gardner-Webb tennis players competed in the College Circuit at NC State this past weekend.
Victor Putter and
Numa Lemieux-Monette shined in the event, each coming award with awards from the tournament.
The event included current college, former, and amateur players in the draws. "I am happy to see the guys play tough this weekend as it gives them good preparation heading into the ITA Regionals at Cary starting this weekend," said Head Coach
Mike Griffith.
Putter and Lemieux-Monette paired up for the doubles draw, finishing it tournament as the winners after going 3-0. They won each of their first matchups by 6-1 decisions and won the finals 6-3 defeating many current and former collegiate tennis players en route to their title.
In singles, Lemeiux-Monette continued his impressive weekend winning the singles draw with a perfect 4-0 mark. This marked his second consecutive win in singles draw after winning it at the Clemson event in early September. Every match he won in straight sets with his toughest competition coming in the second round against Gray Voelzke of VCU 7-5, 7-6. In the finals, he knocked off UNCW's Jacco Arends 6-4, 6-3.
Putter dropped his first two matches in singles but fought back in the consolation bracket to win his final competitions. His first win came against Lincoln Battle 6-2, 3-6, (10-8) followed by Elon's Oskar Antinheimo 6-2, 7-6 to conclude his weekend.

Kim Neithammar and
Connor Enslin also traveled for the event and paired for the doubles draw. They lost their first match but collected themselves to pull off wins from duos of Charlotte, 6-1, and UNCW, 6-4. In singles, they drew tough competition from NC State, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Elon, and Charlotte, playing each closely but unable to pull out the victory.
Gardner-Webb will be back on the courts this weekend as they will start their time in the ITA Regionals in Cary, N.C. The tournament is scheduled for Friday, October 21 through Tuesday, October 25. The team's fall tournament schedule will conclude when Gardner-Webb hosts the Big South Fall Individual Tournament from October 28-30.
