Women's Tennis Competes in ITA Regionals

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Women's Tennis competed in the ITA Regionals this past weekend. The team sent all five players to the event, with one playing in a top singles draw and two pairs within the top doubles draw.
 
Katie Watts and Cayline Le Grange partnered for the A1 doubles draw, losing to the third-ranked pair in the event out of North Carolina. In the consolation bracket, they lost 6-8 to a duo from Campbell to end their run.
 
In the A2 bracket, Maria Jardim and Emilia Roslund dropped their opening match to the fourth-ranked pair in their draw out of the University of South Carolina. In their second event, they lost a close battle 6-8 to an Appalachian State pairing.
 
In singles, Elise Semmartin won 6-2, 6-1 in qualifying over Anna Daniels of UNC Wilmington. After this decision, Emilia Roslund was victorious over Charleston Southern's Khyanna Singh 7-5, 6-0, 7-6 (3).
 
Maria Jardim participated in the A2 draw, playing against the top-ranked player in her first match. Jardim lost 6-3, 6-3 to South Carolina's Sarah Hamner. Katie Watts went into the B1 bracket, losing the first in straight sets, and the consolation match in a tiebreaker in the third set.
 
Gardner-Webb will be back in action at the end of the month playing at the Western Carolina Fall Invitational on October 29-31.
