SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Gardner-Webb's RJ Mosley was named preseason All-Southern Conference Thursday afternoon as the Runnin' Bulldogs gear up for the start of the 2022-2023 wrestling season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth in the preseason poll, which was voted on by the SoCon's head coaches. Campbell, Appalachian State and Chattanooga took the top three spots.
Mosley (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Heritage Hall HS) rolled to a SoCon title last season, posting a 3-0 mark in Boone, N.C., to earn his automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. It was Mosley's second trip to the national tournament. He was the fifth Gardner-Webb wrestler to win a SoCon individual title – and was the 31st Runnin' Bulldog to qualify for NCAA Division I Championships competition
He was chosen for the preseason All-SoCon team at 165 pounds, a weight class he finished ranked No. 20 in the final RPI last season.
Mosley has gone 65-34 during his four years with the program so far. The fifth-year senior is 14-6 during that time in SoCon matches and 25-9 in duals.
Gardner-Webb went 5-2 in the Southern Conference last season (7-7 overall) under head coach Daniel Elliott. The Runnin' Bulldogs get the 2022-2023 season started on November 6 at the Clarion Open in Clarion, Pa.
The first home bout of the season is set for December 16, when Gardner-Webb hosts SIU Edwardsville and Clarion.
