DURHAM, N.C. – Gardner-Webb finished its participation in the ITA Regionals on Sunday afternoon. In total, the players on the team won 11 matches in the competition.
"We had a solid tournament with Victor being our MVP for the weekend," said Head Coach
Mike Griffith. "He has put in the work and is playing great. I am very pleased with our team and how supportive they are for their teammates. We are going to have a fantastic season!"
Chrisjan Van Wyk and
Eduardo Dias each won their opening matches in the main draw of the singles bracket. Dias defeated Adam Duan of Wake Forest 7-5, 6-4, while Van Wyk knocked off Matias Gaedechens from College of Charleston 6-3, 7-6 (4).
In the consolation bracket,
Victor Putter went on to win all four of his matches. Putter defeated Chester Vickwire (UNCA), Thomas Kennedy (Furman), Richard Trey Martin (UNCW), and Juan Lopez De Azcona (Wake Forest) between the three days of action.
Also in the consolation bracket,
Kim Neithammar beat Ryuya Ata (Coastal Carolina) and Hayden Shoemake (Citadel) each in straight sets.
Connor Enslin had victories over Lucas Robins (Citadel) and Morgan Carter (South Carolina).
Putter and
Numa Lemieux-Monette were the lone pair to get a victory in the doubles bracket. They won their match 6-4, 6-7 (4), 12-10, but lost in their next one to a ranked duo from Presbyterian.
The Runnin' Bulldogs have one tournament left for their fall schedule as GWU will be hosting the Big South Individual Fall Invitational.
