Gardner-Webb Men's Basketball Picked Fourth In Preseason Big South Poll

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb men's basketball was picked to finish fourth in the Big South Conference preseason poll, released Wednesday as part of the league's annual media day at the Bojangles Entertainment Complex.
Longwood was picked to repeat as Big South champion, followed by Winthrop, UNC Asheville and the Runnin' Bulldogs – with that lead group outdistancing the rest of the pack by nearly 50 points in the voting.
Head coach Tim Craft enters his 10th season with one of the Big South's most consistent programs in Boiling Springs, N.C., and will have one of the top interior tandems in the league in forwards Kareem Reid (Queens, N.Y.) and Ludovic Dufeal (St. Joseph, Martinique).
The 6-foot-9 Reid was named preseason All-Big South Conference on Wednesday and enters his senior season after averaging a career-high 9.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Reid also blocked 1.6 shots per game.
Joining him up front is Dufeal, a 6-foot-8 senior who averaged 4.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and blocked 38 shots last season.
Gardner-Webb also welcomes back high-flying forward Anthony Selden (Roxbury, Mass.), who flashed All-Big South potential at times last season. Guards Julien Soumaoro (Bronx, N.Y.) and Leon Williams (Cambridge, Mass.), along with post player Ademide Badmus (Lynn, Mass.) also return to form a solid core.
The 'Dogs hit the transfer portal to supplement its talent base for 2022-2023, adding high-scoring wings Caleb Robinson (Lake Arthur, La.) and Quest Aldridge (Winston-Salem, N.C.) from the Division II ranks and veteran guards DQ Nicholas (Atlanta, Ga.) and Lucas Steiber (Green Bay, Wisc.) from Southeast Missouri State and Wisconsin-Green Bay respectively.
