Gardner-Webb's Whittington Named Big South Men's Golf Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb golfer Maddox Whittington was named Big South Conference Men's Golf Freshman of the Week on Thursday afternoon.
Whittington led Gardner-Webb to a tie for second at the 2022 Ironwood Collegiate at East Carolina on Tuesday, finishing 12th individually with a 2-over 218 (70-75-73). He finished atop the team leaderboard for GWU and his round of 70 was the lowest of his season to date.
The Lenoir, N.C., native ranked fifth among all golfers on par-4 holes (+1) and finished at 2-under on par-5 holes. He helped GWU to a tournament-best 34 birdies, draining nine himself.
Gardner-Webb is back in action at the Elon Invitational next week in Burlington, N.C.
