CLARION, Pa. – Gardner-Webb opened its 2022-2023 wrestling campaign on Sunday in the Keystone State, sending 18 wrestlers into competition at the Clarion Open.

The Runnin' Bulldogs finished sixth among college programs at the event with 71 points earned.

Jha'Quan Anderson (184), RJ Mosley (165) and Drew West (125) each earned sixth-place individual finishes and Todd Carter (133), Dominic DuTillio (133) and Matthew Rowland (125) took eighth in their weight classes.

Mosley picked up a major decision to start his day and followed with a shutout decision before falling to Maryland's Gavin Bell by a 10-7 score. He bounced back with two-straight wins before dropping a tight decision to Pittsburgh's Jared Keslar. Mosley is a returning NCAA qualifier and Southern Conference champion.

Anderson fell by one point in his opening bout, before ratting off four consecutive wins, including a major decision and tech fall. He dropped a 3-1 decision to Navy's David Key in his final match of the day.

West also had three wins on Sunday before falling by a 6-4 decision to Navy's Zach Epsalin.

Gardner-Webb will return to the Old North State next week for another tournament, traveling up to Boone, N.C., for the 2022 Mountaineer Open on November 13. The team's first dual comes on December 2, with matches against Bloomsburg (Pa.) and George Mason in Fairfax, Va.

Head coach Daniel Elliott's team will host Clarion (Pa.) and SIU Edwardsville on Friday, December 16 for its first home matches. The Clarion match is set for 11:00 am and the SIU Edwardsville bout will begin at 1:00 pm.
