ARDEN, N.C. - Gardner-Webb took third in the French Broad Women's Invitational as they defeated Tennessee Tech on the final day for their finish.
The Runnin' Bulldogs dropped their match on the first day to the host UNC Asheville on Sunday.
Kayla Dowell and
Gillian O'Brien each had 1UP decisions, but UNCA had a pair of 3&2 wins to have the decision come down to the result from
Linnea Hofgren and Madyson Gold. They were tied through 18, but Gold got the edge on the first tiebreaker hole with a par to get the win.
On Sunday, GWU faced Tennesse Tech in the third-place match and cruised to a 5-0 win.
Georgia Barr won 6&5 with
Katelyn Griggs right behind at 3&2. O'Brien claimed a 3&1 decision while Dowell had a 4&2 for her win to move each of them to 2-0 at the event. The last one saw Hofgren pull away at 3&1 to complete the sweep.
This tournament completes GWU's fall tournament schedule. They will have their next event at the end of February as they host the Bright's Creek Invitational.
