Greenville, N.C. – Gardner-Webb softball split its action on Friday at the 2020 Pirate Invitational on the campus of East Carolina University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Villanova 1, Gardner-Webb 0
With a scoreless game going into the seventh inning, Villanova stole the game during their at-bat. The Wildcats scored on a stolen base and throwing error on the Runnin' Bulldogs catcher to end the first game of the day.
Sydney Gilbert (2-2) took the loss from the circle, pitching a total of 6.1 innings she allowed seven hits, one run, and struck out four batters.
Araceli Pesqueira and
Bridgette Strobl each had a hit against the Wildcats.
Game Two: Gardner-Webb 6, Fairleigh Dickinson 5
At the conclusion of the seventh inning, the game was all tied up at 4-4.
The Knights took the lead during their at-bat in the eighth inning, scoring off of a double RBI, making it a 5-4 ballgame. Then during the 'Dogs at bat
Bridgette Strobl scored on a wild pitch, and
Abbey Goodrum scored on a single hit by
Sydney Gilbert. Allowing the Runnin' Bulldogs to seal the win in walk-off fashion.
