Gardner-Webb Women's Golf Finishes Second At Bright's Creek Invitational

MILL SPRING, N.C. – Gardner-Webb women's golf finished second at the 2022 Bright's Creek Invitational, which wrapped up Sunday morning.

The competing teams wrapped up a delayed second round on Sunday but the third – and final – round was scratched due to poor weather conditions.

The Runnin' Bulldogs shot a 303 as a team in the second round, finishing nine strokes behind team champion Jacksonville State. GWU edged Quinnipiac by two strokes, with Winthrop (+52), Lehigh (+62), Presbyterian (+90) and Catawba (+111) rounding out the field.

Gardner-Webb hosted the weekend tournament on the 7,392-yard (Par 72) Mountain Course at Bright's Creek.

Coach Tee Burton's team was paced by Dominika Burdova, who carded a 72 in the second round to finish in a tie for fourth place individually. Neza Siftar fired a 74 to finish in seventh, with Linnea Hofgren (T-11th) and Kayla Dowell (T-13th) also finishing in the top-20 individually.

Gillian O'Brien finished 22nd individually for Gardner-Webb and Ellis Harvie – competing as an individual – took 28th.

Jacksonville State had three golfers inside the top-10, led by Valentina Curet in third. Quinnipiac's Leeyen Peralta and Winthrop's Emilie Marie Merceliussen-Dahl tied for medalist honors. Merceliussen-Dahl shot a two-under par 70 in the second round to pull into that tie.

Gardner-Webb will play next on March 19 and March 20 at the Low Country Intercollegiate.
