Gardner-Webb Battles To 22-9 SoCon Road Win At Davidson Friday Night

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Gardner-Webb jumped out to a 9-0 lead and rolled to a 22-9 win over Davidson Friday night in Southern Conference wrestling action.

It marked the third SoCon road win of the season for the Runnin' Bulldogs (5-6, 3-2 SoCon).

Gardner-Webb's Aedyn Concepcion started Friday's action with a 4-0 win at 125 pounds, taking the lead early in the second period with an escape and scoring a takedown with 1:02 left in that period. He added a point with riding time for the final margin.

Todd Carter scored with a takedown just 19 seconds into the second period and put the bout out of reach with a four-point near fall at the 1:13 mark. He finished with an 8-3 decision to put Gardner-Webb up 6-0 on the team scoreboard after two weight classes.

Gardner-Webb stretched its lead further at 141 pounds, with Trevon Majette posting a 7-0 win. Majette scored takedowns in each of the three periods for a solid victory.

The Wildcats (3-8, 1-3 SoCon) posted back-to-back wins at 149 and 157 pounds, but RJ Mosley rallied the 'Dogs with a 12-3 major decision at 165 – beginning a string of four consecutive wins for GWU that sealed the team win.

Mosley led 2-0 after the first period, picking up a take down with 1:07 on the clock. He scored another take down with 1:02 left in the second period to go up 5-0 and added a late take down – with just three seconds remaining – to lead 7-1 with on the final two minutes remaining. Mosley added two more take downs in the third and owned riding time.

Evan Schenk posted a win in the night's most exciting match, getting a take down 49 seconds into the first overtime for a 3-1 sudden victory at 174 pounds.

Jha'Quan Anderson's takedown late in the second period built an early lead and the veteran 184-pounder added another takedown in the third to spark a 6-2 decision.

Anthony Perrine led 2-1 after a second-period takedown, but found himself behind Finally Holston at 197 pounds after a reversal early in the third. Perrine turned the tables with 36 seconds remaining, scoring on a reversal himself for a 4-3 lead that he was able to hold until the final horn.

The host Wildcats broke the streak of GWU wins with a 4-0 decision at 285 pounds to end the night.

Gardner-Webb will step out of conference next week, hosting Duke on Wednesday (February 9) at 6:00 pm in Paul Porter Arena.
