CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South announced the winners of their weekly tennis awards on Wednesday afternoon, naming
Alex Lepine the Freshman of the Week. This marks the third consecutive season that Gardner-Webb has had a player earn this honor.
Lepine went 2-1 on the week, dropping his opening match of the week against Lenoir-Rhyne on a tiebreaker in the third set. He bounced back to claim the opening singles points in the team's matches against Lees-McRae and Georgia Southern later in the week. He defeated Lees-McRae on court 4 6-1, 6-1 and Georgia Southern 6-4, 6-0 in position 5.
This is the first time Gardner-Webb has had someone be named the conference's freshman of the week this season, but the second weekly award given to a GWU player. The first was

UNC Asheville's Leo Bierbaum was selected as the Big South Player of the Week.
Gardner-Webb has its next match at Belmont Abbey on February 11.
