CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb senior
Zack Byers was named Big South Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the second time this spring.
The Shelby, N.C., native shot 5-under par (211) and won medalist honors at the 2022 ECU Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C., earlier in the week. He shot 72 in the opening round, 71 in the second round and finished up on Tuesday by carding a 68.
Byers had six birdies to spark his final day push and became the third Big South golfer this season to earn top honors at an event. He also led the tournament with a 9-under par score on Par 5 holes and with 15 birdies over 54 holes.
Byers currently leads Gardner-Webb and ranks fourth in the Big South Conference with a scoring average of 72.13 this season. He has posted a 54-hole score of 211 twice this season so far – the 7th-best score for a Big South golfer in 2021-2022.
Gardner-Webb will head to Pawley's Island, S.C., next week for the Any Given Tuesday Tournament.
