Big South Honors Ristic, Roslund with Weekly Awards

CHARLOTTE – Women's Tennis' Teodora Ristic and Emilia Roslund won both weekly awards from the Big South on Thursday afternoon. Ristic earned Player of the Week and Roslund earned Freshman of the Week.
 
The two players' performances led the team to open their Big South schedule with a 2-0 record, defeating Hampton 7-0 and winning at UNC Asheville 5-2.
 
This is the second time a GWU player has earned Player of the Week this season. The first was Elin Hellberg on February 9. The last time that the 'Dogs won both awards in the same week was April 14, 2019, with Mayumi Saguchi as the POTW and Manon Delsol as the FOTW.
 
Ristic went 6-0 on the week, having three in singles in the topflight and three in doubles from flight #2. She dominated Hampton, winning 6-0 in doubles and 6-0, 6-1 in singles. Both were the first to be completed. Ristic won 6-0 in doubles at Asheville as well and clinched the team's win with her 7-5, 7-6 (10) win in singles. She was part of the lone Runnin' Bulldogs pair to win in doubles against Davidson and claimed the first point of GWU's 4-3 loss to the Wildcats with her singles victory. This match ended 6-1, 6-3.
 
Roslund went 4-0 in Big South matches during the week to aid the team's undefeated start in conference play. She clinched the doubles point and the team win on Monday against Hampton. Her singles match ended 6-1, 6-0 from the #6 position. She clinched the doubles point again against UNC Asheville and provided the team's third point of the day with her win in singles.
 
Gardner-Webb has their next match at Presbyterian, and it started today at 2:00 p.m. Their next match is Sunday, March 13 at 1:00 p.m. as GWU plays host to the Big South's preseason favorite, Charleston Southern.
