Gardner-Webb's Byers Named Big South Conference Mens' Golfer of the Week Again

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb senior Zack Byers earned another honor from the Big South Conference on Friday, continuing his dominant play as Big South Men's Golfer of the Week.
Byers (Shelby, N.C. / Shelby NC) won his second-straight tournament earlier in the week, shooting a 10-under par 206 over 54 holes at the Golf Week Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate in Pawley's Island, S.C.
All three rounds were under 70, as Byers shot 69-69-68 at the event. He averaged 4.47 strokes on Par 5 holes to lead the field (8-under) and averaged 2.87 strokes on Par 3 holes to finish atop that statistical category (3-under).
The senior standout sank 16 birdie putts over 54 holes, ranking second among all golfers at the event.
On Wednesday, Byers shot a 33 on the front nine on the strength of birdies on the first, fourth, seventh and eighth holes. He shot even par on the back nine and finished with five birdies on the day.
It was his fifth-straight round under par this season and his fourth in a row under 70. Byers is shooting 15-under par over his last six rounds of golf. Byers' efforts helped Gardner-Webb finish one stroke back in second place as a team.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will play at the Wofford Terrier Intercollegiate next.
