BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb Women's tennis will honor their two seniors on Saturday's match against North Carolina A&T at noon, before the beginning of their match at 1:30 p.m. The seniors are
Manon Delsol (Moncault, France) and
Maria Jardim (Goiania, Brazil).
Delsol ends her four years in Boiling Springs with a total of 39 career wins, 27 in singles and 12 in doubles. Within the Big South, Delsol is 15-5 in singles matches across her four years at the school. She earned Second-Team All-Conference Singles in 2021 helping the team qualify for the Big South Tournament as the #4 seed. Delsol was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2020 and 2021. She has earned a Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week award during her career. The FOTW came on April 14 in 2019, while the POTW was March 3 of 2021.
Jardim joined the Runnin' Bulldogs in 2020 after transferring in from USC Upstate. In her time with the 'Dogs, she has won a total of 23 matches, 10 singles and 13 doubles. During her time in Spartanburg, she won eight singles matches and nine doubles. Jardim has been an ITA Scholar-Athlete of the Year since her freshman year at Upstate, showcasing her academic skills as well.
The Runnin' Bulldogs are currently 4-1 in the Big South, tied for second in the league. Gardner-Webb has four matches left in the year, three within conference play. This includes Saturday against N.C. A&T (0-12, 0-7), Sunday versus Charleston Southern (11-5, 5-0), Tuesday at UNC Greensboro (2-11). Also, the team still has a match against Presbyterian (5-11, 3-2) left this year that is yet to be rescheduled.
Following the end of the regular season, the Big South Tournament will be contested with the top six teams from the regular season competing in it. The quarterfinals will be held on campus sites between April 14-16. The semifinals and finals will be held at Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte, N.C. on April 23 and 24.
