NINETY SIX, S.C. – Gardner-Webb finished the first round of the 2022 Big South Conference Women's Golf Championship on Wednesday and is tied for sixth after 18 holes.
The Runnin' Bulldogs shot a 311 as a team, which is four strokes behind fifth-place Charleston Southern and tied with UNC Asheville. GWU is six strokes out fo the top-4 heading into Thursday's second round.
The tournament is being played at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor.
The teams will tee off at 8:00 am on Thursday, with the Runnin' Bulldogs set to begin on the first hole in the first time slot (8:00 am - 8:40 am).
USC Upstate shot a 298 to lead the opening round, followed by High Point (299), Campbell (301) and Longwood (305).
Dominika Burdova continued her solid play for Gardner-Webb, shooting a 76 to finish Wednesday in a tie for 13th. Reigning Big South Freshman of the Week
Neza Siftar shot a 77 to finish in a tie for 19th and
Linnea Hofgren fired a 78 to finish just outside the top-25 (t-26).
Kayla Dowell (80) and
Gillian O'Brien (81) were close behind.
The low score on Wednesday came from High Point's Danielle Suh and Charleston Southern's Caroline Engelbredt, who each shot a 73 to lead the pack. Five golfers finished with 74 scores and sit in a tie for third.
Gardner-Webb will be paired with Charleston Southern and Longwood on Thursday.
