#3 Gardner-Webb Defeats #6 Radford 4-0 to go to Big South Semifinals

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – #3 Gardner-Webb punched their ticket to the Big South Tournament Semifinals after defeating #6 Radford 4-0 on Friday. This is the second time in school history the 'Runnin Bulldogs have won a match in the quarterfinals of the Women's Tennis Tournament.

The day started with Radford winning in the #3 flight 6-3. After this, Gardner-Webb won the remaining two matches to claim an early lead with the doubles point. Teodora Ristic and Maria Jardim won 6-4 on court 2, followed by Manon Delsol and Elin Hellberg winning 6-3 in the topflight for the point.

In singles, Delsol got the first win for the 'Dogs with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Radford's Melissa Ifidzhen. After this, Roslund won in straight sets at 6, 6-2, 6-3 putting GWU one point away from clinching the match.

With big leads on courts 1 and 3, Jardim and Ristic looked to be the ones that would clinch the team's win. Jardim's ended first at position 3, winning 6-3, 6-3 to send the 'Dogs to Charlotte next weekend in the tournament semifinals.

Ristic's was left unfinished with her leading 7-5, 4-1 in the topflight. Hellberg dropped the first set 3-6 but was leading 4-3 when it was called in the second. Semmartin won the first set 6-3 and was losing 2-4 in the second set.

Gardner-Webb will play their semifinal match against #2 Campbell on Friday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte, N.C.
