BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb sealed their spot in the Big South Tournament with their 7-0 win against North Carolina A&T on Saturday afternoon. The Runnin' Bulldogs are now 5-1 in conference play in 2022, the team's best mark in the Big South in school history.
The Aggies only used five players, leading to winning by default on doubles court 3 and singles court 6.
The doubles point was clinched by
Manon Delsol and
Elin Hellberg from position 2 by a 5-2 score. The topflight match went unfinished 5-2.
Gardner-Webb won all singles matches in straight sets, not allowing N.C. A&T to win more than two games in a single set. The first to finish was
Teodora Ristic's 6-1, 6-0 win in the topflight. Delsol clinched the win for the 'Dogs with a 6-0, 6-2 decision on court 2.
Elise Semmartin won 6-0, 6-2 from position 5, which was followed by Hellberg winning in a dominant 6-0, 6-0 fashion at #4. The day ended when
Maria Jardim got a 6-1, 6-2 victory at court 3.
The Runnin' Bulldogs have two matches left this season and are third in the Big South standings. The home finale as well as the team's senior day will be tomorrow against Charleston Southern (5-0) at 3:00 p.m. The regular-season finale is in Clinton, S.C. at Presbyterian (4-2).
