GWU has four players honored with Big South Annual Awards

CHARLOTTE – The Big South Conference announced the winners for its annual awards for Men's Tennis on Thursday afternoon. There were four Gardner-Webb athletes that received honors.

Eduardo Dias finished the year with a 14-5 record this season posting a 5-2 mark in Big South play to earn his spot on the First-Team All-Conference Singles. As the year progressed, he became the top player on the team being the consistent No. 1 court player for GWU. Dias joined the team in January, making his impact on the court seen immediately. This is the sixth consecutive season that GWU has had a player make All-Conference First-Team for singles.

Head Coach Mike Griffith said, "Only a few players can come in mid-year and do well. Eduardo didn't just do well; he kicked the door in fantastic. The sky is the limit for him, and he knows what he needs to become even better."

Earning a spot on the Second-team All-Conference was the duo of Sebastian Harris and Connor Enslin. The pair collected eight wins during the season, seven of which coming on No. 2 court.

"They are both hard workers and their hard work paid off this season," said Griffith. "Their fall tournament at the Carolina Regionals will go down as the most amazing run I've ever witnessed, and I was glad I was there to see it."

Victor Putter rounded out the team's honorees being selected to the All-Academic Team. Putter has collected a 4.0 GPA pursuing his degree in mathematics. Between singles and doubles matches, he was able to compile a 15-win season, contributing greatly to the team's success in 2022.

"Dedicated, disciplined, driven are words I use when I think of Victor," said Griffith. "He is a 4.0 student who gives his best in everything he does."
