Trio of Bulldogs Earn Big South Awards, Teodora Ristic Named Conference Player of the Year

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced the winners of its yearly awards on Thursday afternoon with three Gardner-Webb players receiving honors. GWU's Teodora Ristic was named the Player of the Year for the conference after going 8-0 in topflight conference matches.
To add to the success of the team tying the school record in Big South wins (6), the program has never had three different honorees named to the First-Team for the conference between singles and doubles. Also, this was the first time since the 2012 season that multiple Runnin' Bulldogs were named All-Conference First-Team for singles.
In addition to winning Player of the Year, Ristic was also named the First-Team for Singles and Doubles with her partner Maria Jardim. Ristic ended the year on an 11-match win streak in singles, with ten of these being won in straight sets. Also, she was responsible for clinching the team's win at UNC Ashville in March. She is the first player from GWU to earn POTY honors since Erica White in 2013. This is the second consecutive season a Gardner-Webb played earned a spot on the conference's First-Team for singles after Miljana Ristic was named to it in 2021.
In doubles, Ristic and Jardim collected an 11-4 record during the year, going 6-1 in Big South matches, primarily all from the #2 position. The pair started conference play unbeaten through their first five matches. This is the sixth year in a row that a GWU duo has been named All-Big South.
Manon Delsol also received a spot on the conference's First-Team for singles with a 9-5 record in the regular season and a 5-3 finish to conference play. Delsol began Big South play with a perfect 4-0 mark, collecting wins over Hampton, UNC Asheville, Longwood, and Radford. Last season, Delsol was named to the Conference's Second-Team for singles.
Jardim also received a spot on the Big South's All-Academic Team carrying a 3.94 GPA is pursuing a degree in Economics/Finance. Jardim ended the regular season with six victories between the #3 and #4 courts. She recently clinched the team's first-round win over #6 Radford to advance the team to the Semifinals of the Big South Tournament.
Gardner-Webb will head to Charlotte this weekend to play in the Finals of the Big South Tournament on Saturday, April 23 at 3:00 p.m. against the winner of #1 Charleston Southern and #4 UNC Asheville.
