July 12, 2022 | Men's Tennis
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Head Coach Mike Griffith announced the signing of Kim Neithammer on Tuesday afternoon, a transfer from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Neithammar is originally from Harrenburg, Germany, and joins the Runnin' Bulldogs with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Griffith said, "Adding Kim is a big time catch for us. He has played a ton this summer overseas and his experience and game style is a winning combination."
He was part of the Washburn squad that finished its 2022 season at 17-6 including a berth in the DII NCAA Central Championships. The Ichabods finished the year ranked #19 in ITA National Poll. Washburn reached as high as #7 in this ranking during the season.
Neithammar went 6-2 in singles and had one doubles victory on the year. He spent most of the season playing between courts 5 and 6.
In Germany, he currently has a men's open ranking of 190. After seeing him compete, Griffith said "This is someone who will not beat himself in a match, he does not commit many errors and that will prove crucial during our season."
This will be the first player for Gardner-Webb from Germany since All Big-South player Maximilian Scholl who was with the 'Dogs from 2015-2019.
Neithammar plans to study international business when he arrives in Boiling Springs.
Gardner-Webb will start its fall tournament schedule on August 23-30 in Charlotte for the Dick Stockton 8K Tournament. The Runnin' Bulldogs return eight of their players from last season, including three players who received All-Big South honors.
