Gardner-Webb Golfers Wrap Opener At 2022 GolfWeek Fall Challenge

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - Gardner-Webb golf dove into its 2022 fall season at the Golfweek Fall Challenge, with the men finishing in a tie for sixth and the women 15th.

The GWU women finished just one stroke behind Georgetown after completing the three-day tournament, which was played at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club (Par 71, 6,026 yards).

The Runnin' Bulldogs outpaced Tennessee Tech by six strokes and were led by veteran Linnea Hofgren – who finished 20th after firing a sizzling round of 69 on Tuesday. Kayla Dowell finished four strokes back in 32nd (70-78-71) after a final round of 71.

Neza Siftar (78-73-75-226), Gillian O'Brien (76-78-74-228) and Georgia Barr (80-81-78-239) also scored for Gardner-Webb.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will play in the Elon Women's Invitational on September 19-20 in Burlington, N.C.

Men's Tournament
The Gardner-Webb men's team tied with Southern Indiana and Tennessee Tech after their three-day event, which was played on the Par 72, 6,921-yard True Blue Course.

The 'Dogs shot an 858 over 54 holes as a team, falling just two strokes off the pace of a fourth-place tie between Samford and Delaware.

Max White (71-67-72-210) finished ninth individually to lead the way, with Connor Fahey (71-73-67-211) just one stroke back in 12th. Bradley Davis (75-69-74-218), Peech Bunnadodee (70-74-77-221) and Jack Boyer (80-74-75-229) rounded out Gardner-Webb's scoring for the tournament.

White was terrific on Par 5 holes, tying for the tournament lead with a 9-under par score over three rounds on those holes (4.40 average). Fahey was just as effective on the course's Par 3 holes, finishing second among all golfers with an average score of 2.80 over three rounds (-3). Fahey led Gardner-Webb with 13 birdies over 54 holes.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will get back to action quickly, playing in the annual RIver Run Intercollegiate in Davidson, N.C., on September 19-20.
