ROCK HILL, S.C. – Gardner-Webb hit the trails on Saturday at the 2022 WInthrop/adidas Cross Country Invitational, with the women finishing third and the men fifth.
Women's Race
Jessican Perriello led Gardner-Webb in the 5K race (3.11 miles), finishing ninth in a time of 19:48.5.
Julia Reinboth finished 25th (21:23.6), Camile Sykes finished 27th (21:53.9),
Teryn Bour finished just seconds behind in 28th (22:05.7),
Jennifer Escalera finished 31st (22:33.8) and Bella Dewelk (23:14.0) finished 34th.
South Carolina had eight of the top-10 individual finishes to win the team title. UNC Asheville came in second, followed by GWU, The Citadel and host Winthrop.
Men's Race
Gardner-Webb finished fifth in the men's 8K race, with
Dylan Phillips (27:30.5) leading the charge with a 16th-place individual performance.
Ryan Morita (29:34.4) finished 31st,
Joe Waller (30:29.6) finished 33rd,
Ethan Bentley (31:17.9) finished 34th,
John Marsh (31:37.9) finished 35th,
Mark Mellon (32:42.0) finished 36th and
Cole Ray finished 38th (35:39.0) to cap the GWU contingent.
UNC Asheville won the men's race, followed by The Citadel, Winthrop and GWU.
Both Gardner-Webb teams will head to Charlotte, N.C., on October 7 for the Queens Cross Country Meet at 4:30 pm.
