CHARLOTTE – The Big South Conference named the winners for its weekly awards for women's soccer on Monday afternoon, with the league office selecting Gardner-Webb forward
Maddie Turlington (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson HS) as Offensive Player of the Week.
Turlington tallied five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points last week as Gardner-Webb combined to outscore opponents 25-1 in a pair of commanding wins.
On Friday, Turlington notched her first-career hat trick and added one assist in only 30 minutes to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a historic 21-0 win over Allen, setting a new all-time Big South record for goals scored in a match in the process.
Following her career week, Turlington now leads the nation in total points with 24. She is also second in the nation with 10 goals and leads the Big South in goals per game (1.00) and points per game (2.40).
The senior forward then followed up with two goals and an assist on Sunday in a 4-1 victory against South Carolina State, her second multi-goal outing of the week and third of the season, while also already setting a new single-season career-high for goals (10) with a full Big South slate still to play.
Gardner-Webb is next in action at home against Charleston Southern on Wednesday, September 21, as it opens the league portion of its schedule. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Greene-Harbison Stadium in Boiling Springs.
