Gardner-Webb Women Roll To 76-45 Road Win At UNC Asheville On Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Ki'Ari Cain scored 18 points to lead five women in double figures and Gardner-Webb rolled to a 76-45 road win at UNC Asheville Saturday.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (14-4, 6-0 Big South) remained undefeated and in first place in the league standings, opening up a 38-20 lead by halftime.

Cain had 10 points by halftime and finished the game 7-of-13 from the floor with four assists, three steals and a pair of rebounds in 33 minutes.

Jhessyka Williams scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half and nearly notched another triple-double with 12 rebounds and eight assists. She had six boards and six dimes by halftime.

Lauren Bevis had 12 of her 17 points in the first half, hitting four threes in the first 20 minutes to help Gardner-Webb build a comfortable lead. Alasia Smith and Michahla Funderburk each had 10 points in the win.

Gardner-Webb built a 20-8 lead late in the first quarter a poured it on from there, shooting 53.8 percent in the second quarter and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc behind Bevis' hot hand.

The Runnin' Bulldogs finished the day 28-of-59 from the floor (47.5 percent) and made a sizzling 12-of-26 from long range (46.2 percent). GWU also held a 39-29 edge on the backboards and scored 32 points off of 21 Asheville turnovers.

The host Bulldogs got 15 points off the bench from Jordaynia Ivie, but shot just 31.3 percent from the floor (15-of-48) and made 1-of-17 from three-point range (5.9 percent). Ivie was the lone Bulldog in double figures.

Gardner-Webb returns to Boiling Springs on Wednesday to begin a two-game home stand, hosting Longwood at 7:00 pm. GWU will host Winthrop on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm (January 21).
