HIGH POINT, N.C. –
Lauren Bevis scored a career-high 35 points on 14-of-15 shooting Saturday afternoon and Gardner-Webb blew past High Point 86-68 for its 10th win in a row.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (18-4, 10-0 Big South) led 34-33 at halftime and used a 10-0 run early in the third quarter to take control of the game and lead 55-47 heading into the fourth.
Gardner-Webb kept the pressure on in the final stanza, leading by as many as 22 points down the stretch.
Bevis – named Big South Player of the Week this past Monday – was on fire throughout, connecting on her first seven shots before missing a floater with 8:45 to play before halftime. She didn't miss again, topping her previous career-high of 33 set last season at Georgia Southern. She is averaging 26.7 points per game over the last three contests.
The High Point, N.C., native made 7-of-7 from long range and pulled down six rebounds in the win.
Alasia Smith added 20 points and eight boards and
Jhessyka Williams had 15 points and seven boards for Gardner-Webb.
Ki'Ari Cain led the way with five assists.
Gardner-Webb shot a crisp 53.2 percent from the floor overall and 11-of-20 from long distance (55.0 percent). GWU held a 35-26 edge on the glass and forced 16 High Point turnovers.
The Runnin' Bulldogs guarded the arc well, limiting the Panthers (9-11, 7-3 Big South) to just 4-of-22 from long range (18.2 percent).
Skyler Curran led the Panthers with 17 points and Jordan Edwards had 14.
The game marked Gardner-Webb's fifth-straight win over High Point, dating back to last season.
