BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb picked up their win of the season as they swept Lenoir-Rhyne 7-0 on Monday afternoon on the road. The match finishes up the three-match road stretch that begin the season.
"The first win in every season is the hardest, but I am proud of our singles play today," said Head Coach
Mike Griffith. "We still have work to do, but we are improving."
In doubles,
John Spring and
Cathal Butler got the first decision of the day as they won 6-3 from the #3 flight.
Numa Lemieux-Monette and
Victor Putter sealed the team's opening doubles point getting a 6-3 win in the topflight.
Chrisjan Van Wyk and
Eduardo Dias finished off the sweep as he won 7-5 on court #2.
Lemieux-Monette was the first to conclude his match as he won 6-2, 6-0 from position #5 followed quickly by his fellow Canadian,
Alex Lepine, from court #2 as he won 6-0, 6-2.
Dias clinched the team win as he got a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the topflight as he took down Zachary Cox.
Putter and
Kim Neithammar also got straight set wins from courts #2 and #6. Putter won his 6-4, 6-3 and Neithammar won 7-5, 6-0. The concluded with
Sebastian Harris claiming a 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-5 triumph from position #4.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday, February 1 at 1:30 p.m. as they host Lees-McRae for GWU's home opener of the 2023 season.
