Gardner-Webb Has Strong Performance in ITA Regional Championships

Terblanche and Lemieux-Monette reach the round of 16 in ITA play

CARY, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb University men's tennis team concluded their fall schedule with a strong performance in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships this past weekend. Overall, the team won 13 matches across the three-day tournament.
 
"We were one more win away from a fantastic tournament but we still had some strong performances here.", said coach Griffith. "When we go to a tournament, our goal is to win it. This fall we played in five tournaments, and we won three. We are a senior team, and we are the team to beat in the conference come 2024."
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs' doubles team of Jurie Terblanche and Numa Lemieux-Monette besting Furman University in first round 8-2 prior to beating third seeded Duke University 8-7.  Their run ended in the round of 16 versus Clemson by a final of 8-5.
 
Other standouts included John Spring who picked up victories in singles matches against Furman and Coastal Carolina. Kim Niethammer went 2-1 in singles with wins over The Citadel and UNCW. Jurie Terblanche also had a strong showing as he went 2-1 in singles with wins over Wofford and Presbyterian. Eduardo Dias also won his first two rounds over Queens and UNCA.
