Runnin’ Bulldogs Bested at Winthrop

Eagles retake second half lead over GWU

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's soccer team fell in their final conference match of the season against Winthrop University on Wednesday evening by a final score of 2-1. Klara Ovefelt scored her second goal of the season for GWU.
 
The match remained scoreless during the first 45 minutes of play. Gardner-Webb had a chance at a penalty shot opportunity in the eighth minute that was missed. Annabel Thomas put the Eagles ahead in the 57th minute. Junior midfielder Klara Ovefelt brought the Runnin' Bulldogs level not long after in the 61st minute. She was assisted by Megan Gettys and Camila Lezcano. Winthrop retook the lead in the 63rd minute as Emma Smith scored. All three goals of the match occurred within six minutes of play.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs will complete their season on Monday, Oct. 30 at South Carolina State at 6:00 p.m.
