TULSA, Okla. – The Gardner-Webb University men's tennis team had a strong showing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Championships this past weekend. Overall, the team finished with a record of 4-2 in singles matches, and went 1-1 in doubles.
Senior
Eduardo Dias picked up wins over players representing Stetson, Georgia Southern, and Yale before falling against Texas A&M. He posted a record of 3-1 in the singles tournament. Additionally, senior
Chrisjan Van Wyk picked up a victory over Chattanooga prior to being bested by Princeton in three sets.
The Runnin' Bulldogs doubles team held the top seed out of 32 ranked teams in the tournament. GWU won the first round versus VCU in three sets before falling against Illinois also in three sets. Gardner-Webb forced two match points against Illinois and also saved a match point versus VCU.
"These two seniors showed mentality and professionalism on this trip.", said assistant coach
Sebastian Harris. "It was great to see them representing Gardner-Webb University as a tough hardworking team and they should be proud of themselves for that. Now we are excited to get back to work and looking forward to our next tournament."
The 'Dawgs will be back in action later this fall at the ITA Regional Championships. These will take place between Friday, Oct. 20 and Tuesday, Oct. 24 in Cary, N.C.
