STATESBORO, Ga. – The Gardner-Webb swimming teams traveled to Statesboro, Georgia to open the season at Georgia Southern University with The Savannah College of Art and Design on Saturday, October 7.
Gardner-Webb landed on the podium in 24 of 28 events, with nine 'Dawgs winning their events including the men sweeping the 500-yard freestyle race (
Luke Weber 4:47.55,
Garrett Despres 4:49.73, and
Theo Drescher 4:51.41) and the 200-yard breaststroke race (
Justin Bender 2:10.52,
Ryan Taylor 2:10.73, and
Austin Wheeler 2:11.23).
First-year swimmer, Weber, had a great day in the pool picking up first-place finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:52.44) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.55). Freshman
Slawka Ndubuisi excelled for the women securing first-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (53.58) and the 50-yard freestyle (23.90).
Freshman
Nolan Patterson picked up a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21.20) and was a part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team with junior
John David Cass, freshman
Jacob Jensen, and junior
Zuri Ramsey (1:24.38).
Other top finishes for the 'Dawgs include Cass recording a first-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (50.95), Bender in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.52), and freshman
Alex Cook in the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.40).
Gardner-Webb hits the water in Bost Pool for its first home meet of the season hosting Milligan University on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11:00 a.m.
