BOONE, N.C. – Jha'Quan Anderson and Todd Carter picked up a pair of second place finishes in their respective weight classes at the Mountaineer Invite on Saturday, Nov. 11.
 
Competing at 184 pounds, Anderson knocked off Dalton Battle of App State 8-5, before rolling over Thomas Brooker of the Mountaineers 10-3. Anderson dropped the championship match to no. 1-seed Sam Wolf of Air Force 5-1.
 
In his first action of the season, Carter opened his day at 141 pounds with a 5-4 win over Ike Byers of App State, and then picked up a 16-13 decision over Garrett Kuchan of Air Force. Carter fell in the championship match by major decision 14-4 to Jack Gioffre of Virginia.
 
Drew West and Peyton McComas both finished third in their respective weight classes. West opened his day at 125 pounds picking up a victory by fall over Noah Luna of Appalachian State in 5:18. After falling to Kyle Montaperto of Virginia by an 11-9 decision, West defeated teammate Aedyn Concepcion with a 6-1 decision, before taking the third-place matchup over Chad Bellis of App State by fall in just 58 seconds.
 
At 285 pounds, McComas dropped his opening match up to Antonio Ramos of Air Force by fall in 2:09, but rebounded with a tech fall victory 18-2 over Jacob Sartorio. McComas clinched third-place with another tech fall victory, knocking off Morvens Saint-Jean of Presbyterian with a 15-0 win.
 
Tyson Lane and Josh McCutchen rounded out the placements for Gardner-Webb, picking up a pair of fourth-place finishes. McCutchen finished fourth at 197 pounds, opening his day with a 22-12 major decision win over Ethan Weatherspoon of Virginia, before falling to Calvin Sund of Air Force 8-2. McCutchen picked up a win by fall over Garrett Henigin of Air Force in 4:47, but dropped the rematch with Weatherspoon in the third-place match, falling 15-10.
 
Lane finished fourth at 133 pounds, beginning his day in Boone with a win over Gavin Caprella of Air Force by fall in 3:33. Lane was defeated by Marlon Yarbrough of Virginia by fall in 2:50, but rebounded with a 10-5 decision over teammate T.K. Davis. Lane dropped the third-place match to Gable Porter of Virginia by fall in 4:52.
 
In all, 16 wrestlers competed for GWU at the Mountaineer Invite.
 
Gardner-Webb closes out the month of November next week at the Black Knight Invite at Army West Point on Sunday, Nov. 19. Competition is set to begin at 10:00 A.M.
