SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Gardner-Webb University women's tennis team completed their fall season this past weekend at the Wofford Invite. The Runnin' Bulldogs were joined at the event host Wofford, UNC Asheville, UNC Greensboro, Jacksonville State, Presbyterian, Mercer, and Radford.
"The ladies know what it takes to compete at a high level.", said current acting Head Coach
Manon Delsol. "This fall we focused on their mental part of their game and conditioning, and it has really paid off. I am really proud of them and ready for the season to begin."
GWU's
Emilia Roslund and
Emma Shasteen defeated UNCA duo of Steenkamp and Siegel 6-3 to advance to the finals of the gold draw.
Katie Watts and
Valeria Lloclla bested UNCA 6-4 after being down 4-1.
Freshman Alizee Poulin beat Presbyterian's Piedra 7-6,7-6 who played for #1 last season.
Other victories for Gardner-Webb included Lloclla defeating UNCA Siegel 6-1,6-2, Roslund over Presbyterian's Davis 7-6,7-5, and Shasteen over Radford's Abrams 6-3,4-6, 10-7.
Courtney Fyvie also defeated Presbyterian's Colalancia and dropped just one game in doing so 6-1,6-0.
Overall, this fall the 'Dawgs played four tournaments and collected 27 wins.
