CLARION, Pa. - Zach Price picked up a third-place finish as Gardner-Webb opened the 2023-24 season at the Clarion Open on Sunday, Nov. 5.

Price finished the day with a 5-1 record, rolling to four straight wins to start the day. Price defeated Jaxon Joy (UNR) 12-11 before knocking off Jack Pletcher (Pitt) by fall in 4:39. Price rolled over Marcos Polanco (Purdue) 8-4, and after dropping the semifinal match, Price took the third place medal at 149, defeating Dylan Chappell (Bucknell) by major decision, 18-8.

Eight GWU wrestlers picked up multiple victories at the Clarion Open. 

Wrestling at 285, Peyton McComas went 3-2 on the day, picking up a pair of wins by fall and earning a tech fall over Alex Hamrick (Brown) in 4:23 by a score of 15-0. Aedyn Concepcion also finished 3-2 on the day at 125, winning three straight matches after dropping his first round matchup. Concepcion also picked up one victory by fall over Jordan Villareal (Pitt) in 6:42.

Freshman Drew Pepin also went 3-2 in his Gardner-Webb debut, wrestling at 157. Pepin picked up a pair of wins by fall, defeating Gabe Gailoto (John Caroll) in 1:40, and knocking off Lavinsky Collins (Clarion) in 2:37. 

T.K. Davis (133), Joseph Giordano (149), Daniel Tierney (149), Pepin (157), and Edison Flores (197) all picked up their first career victories as members of the Gardner-Webb wrestling team.

Gardner-Webb heads to Boone, N.C. for the Mountaineer Open hosted by Appalachian State. Action begins in Boone on Sunday, Nov. 12.
