CLEMSON, S.C. – Gardner-Webb fell to Elon on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 6-1. The match was contested and moved to Clemson's indoor tennis facility due to rainy conditions expected in Boiling Springs, N.C. throughout the day.
The Phoenix claimed the doubles point with 6-1 decisions on courts #2 and #3 with the topflight being unfinished. At the time of it being called, Elon led 5-2 over GWU's
Maria Jardim and
Emilia Roslund.
In singles, Elon got five decisions coming in straight sets to get the win. Valeria Llocolla dropped her debut matches with GWU after playing in #3 doubles and #4 singles. Jardim had a narrow loss with her 7-6 (5), 7-5 loss on court #3.
Roslund provided the lone team point of the day for Gardner-Webb after winning in flight #2 in three sets where she lost in the first one. The scoreline for her match stood at 4-6, 7-5, 10-4.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m. as they host Wofford at the Webb Tennis Complex.
