MILL SPRING, N.C. –
Neza Siftar captured medalist honors and the Gardner-Webb women kicked off their 2023 spring season by finishing third at the Bright's Creek Invitational Sunday.
The 54-hole event, hosted by Gardner-Webb, was played on the Tom Fazio-designed Bright's Creek golf course.
Gardner-Webb shot a tournament-low team score of 301 on Sunday to pull within two strokes of team champion Presbyterian by day's end – shaving 14 strokes off its overall score.
Finished one stroke behind second-place Evansville.
Siftar lowered her score in each round and caught fire on Sunday, carding a final round of 68 to finish seven strokes in front of second-place Sarah Boteler of Presbyterian College.
After Siftar (80-73-68-221), Gardner-Webb had a top-10 individual finish from
Kayla Dowell (81-78-76-235) and saw
Linnea Hofgren (84-73-76-243) finish 13th.
Georgia Barr (87-82-81-250) finished in a tie for 19th and
Gillian O'Brien (89-82-82-253) took 22nd for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Katelyn Griggs (78-78-74-23) played the tournament as an individual and finished in third place, just nine strokes behind Sifter's winning score.
Gardner-Webb finished 33 strokes in front of fourth-place North Carolina A&T. Purdue-Fort Wayne and Eastern Illinois finished fifth and sixth on the 6,069-yard, Par 72 course.
