GREENVILLE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb men's golf enjoyed a strong showing at the 2023 ECU Intercollegiate at Brook Valley, finishing in a tie for sixth in the 54-hole tournament.
The Runnin' Bulldogs shot 289 and 301 over the final two rounds to finish tied with Oakland University – and just one stroke behind fifth-place Temple.
Senior
Max White was the individual standout for the Runnin' Bulldogs, shooting 70-72-73 to finish in a tie for third place. White had a birdie on his third hole and sank two birdies over his final seven holes to take third.
His first round was his best, as he shot a 70 on the tournament's first 18 holes. White shot a 31 on the front nine that round, sinking birdies on the second, third, sixth, seventh and ninth holes to sit at 5-under par at the turn.
White followed with five birdies in the second round to finish at even par (72). He finished just two strokes off the pace of medalist Lucas Augustsson of East Carolina and one stroke out of second place.
Head coach
Tee Burton got strong efforts as well from Conner Fahey (75-69-79-223) who finished in a tie for 16th and Jules Bondi (80-72-73-225) who was two strokes back in a tie for 24th.
Jack Boyer (81-76-76-233) finished 61st and
Mark Chandler (82-80-79-241) finished 85th for Gardner-Webb.
The Runnin' Bulldogs led the tournament with 42 birdies as a team, with White's 13 birdies the best individually. Fahey had 11 birdies himself and Boyer sank eight.
Gardner-Webb will be in action next week, traveling to Pawley's Island, S.C., to compete in the annual Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate (March 27-29).
