March 22, 2023 | Women's Tennis
CHARLOTTE – Valeria Lloclla was named the Big South Conference's Freshman of the Week for the third consecutive time on Wednesday afternoon by the league office.
This marks the first time since 2014 that someone has received this award three weeks in a row when Nicolin Luecke earned it on Feb. 25, Mar. 4 and Mar. 11. GWU has received the freshman of the week now for the fourth-straight week, which is longest streak in the history of the league.
Lloclla (Lima, Peru) provided a key victory for GWU in the team's 5-2 win over N.C. A&T on Wednesday, March 15. Lloclla played in the #4 flight for singles and won 7-5, 6-0 and had her win put the 'Dogs a point away from clinching the win. Following that victory, she then had a four-match win streak and held a 3-0 edge over Big South competition.
The Runnin' Bulldogs have had seven players win one of the honors from the league with the past four freshmen of the week being from GWU. On March 1, Cayline Le Grange was the first Gardner-Webb athlete to be honored with it this season with Llocolla being the recipient of it the past three times (3/8, 3/15, 3/22).
Gardner-Webb (1-3) will be back in action on the morning of Saturday, March 25. They will host Longwood (1-2) and will be competed following the celebration of GWU's seniors as part of the Senior Day festivities. Elise Semmartin and Courtney Fyvie will both be honored during the time.
