CHARLOTTE – The Big South Conference announced the winners of their weekly awards on Wednesday afternoon and selected
Numa Lemieux-Monette as the league player of the week. During last week's action he clinched both matches including a road conference win.
Lemieux-Monette (Montreal, Canada) helped to end a two-match skid and pull themselves into a now four-way tie for first in the league standings as they handed Radford their first Big South loss of the year. On Thursday, GWU trailed 3-1 against the Highlanders, and won the next two matches to conclude to tie the match at 3-3. He dropped the first set in a tiebreaker, but won the overall decision 6-7 (3), 6-3, 7-5 for the 'Dogs first win at Radford since 2017.
On Sunday, he also fell in the first in a tiebreaker, but overcame the setback to win 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-2. Each of his doubles matches went unfinished with him leading 5-4 on Thursday and tied 6-6 on Sunday.
The sophomore is now the third different player to win the award from GWU this season and fifth total time it has gone to someone from Gardner-Webb (
Eduardo Dias – three times;
Alex Lepine – one time). This is also the first time in his career that he has won a weekly award from the league.
Gardner-Webb is currently in an off week as they have over a week between their last match played and their next one. They have three matches left with their next two finishing up conference play. They host Longwood on Tuesday, April 4 and UNC Asheville on Thursday, April 6 for Senior Day. The season ends with a nonconference trip to UNC Wilmington on April 13.
