BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb (1-1) dropped their decision against Campbell (1-1) on Monday afternoon by a 4-3 final. The Fightin' Camels won on the top four courts in singles to claim the decision.
Head Coach
Mike Griffith said, "You have to give the credit to Campbell, they were behind the whole day and found a way to win. We will be better next time."
The Runnin' Bulldogs got the early point from doubles to claim the early lead on the day.
Numa Lemieux-Monette and
Victor Putter won 6-4 on court #2 and the point was clinched by
Eduardo Dias and
Chrisjan Van Wyk in the topflight by a 7-5 score. The match on court #3 went unfinished.
Gardner-Webb's
Kim Niethammer had the first match to conclude of the day as he won 6-2, 6-0 form position #5 to extend his win streak to 13. In the #1 spot, Campbell's Damien Nezer had a straight sets win. The 'Dogs were victorious in the next to conclude as
Sebastian Harris won 6-3, 6-3 to push the GWU lead to 3-1.
The Camels started to roll as they won all three matches that went to a third set. They won close first sets in each of them, dropped the seconds, but recovered to win the third. Lukas Steffen clinched the match from court #3.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action next Monday with a trip to William & Mary on the books. The first serve for it will be at 2:00 p.m.
