GWU Earns #1 Seed for Upcoming Men's Tennis Championships

CHARLOTTE – Men's Tennis earned the #1 seed in the Big South Tournament as announced by the league's office on Thursday evening. This is the second time that Gardner-Webb has earned the league's #1 seed as well as their second-ever regular season title in school history. The last time came in the 2019 season as they finished at 7-1.
 
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished in a three-way tie at the top of the league standings with identical 4-1 records. GWU, Campbell and Presbyterian are seeded in that order. Radford rounded out the field as they had a 2-3 mark against Big South opponents.
 
Gardner-Webb won the tiebreaker after needing to go to the fourth tiebreaker scenario of aggregate match score against teams tied at the position to decide the placings. The teams end went 1-1 when facing each other with GWU being a collective 8-6 vs Campbell/Presbyterian, with Campbell at 7-7 and Presbyterian rounding it out at 6-8.
 
The 2023 Big South Men's Tennis Championship will be played Friday-Saturday, April 21-22 at the Marion Diehl Tennis Center in Charlotte, N.C. The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic big to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship. The Championship schedule for next weekend is as follows and is subject to change:

Sunday, April 23 - Semifinals 
No. 1 Gardner-Webb vs. No. 4 Radford, 11:00am
No. 2 Campbell vs. No. 3 Presbyterian, 2:00pm
 
Saturday, April 22 – Championship
1/4 Winner vs. 2/3 Winner, 3:00pm
