GREENWOOD, S.C. – Gardner-Webb shot its lowest round of the week on Friday to finish third in stroke play and advance to match play at the 2023 Big South Women's Golf Championship.
The tournament is being played at The Links at Stoney Point (Par 72, 6,293 yards).
The Runnin Bulldogs carded a 300 for the day as a team to finish just five strokes behind second-place High Point. Campbell surged into first place by the end of Friday's action and Charleston Southern finished five strokes behind Gardner-Webb in fourth.
Linnea Hofgren captured All-Championship honors with a tie for fifth individually, finishing stroke play with a 225 (71-79-75). Teammate Reza Siftar (75-76-75-226) was just one shot behind in a tie for seventh, and each of Gardner-Webb's five golfers finished inside the top-30 individually.
Georgia Barr (81-80-74-235) was the low woman for Gardner-Webb on Friday and pulled into a tie with teammate
Katelyn Griggs (79-80-76-235) for 26th place.
Kayla Dowell (78-78-82-238) finished in a tie for 29th.
Hofgren shot even par over the first nine on Friday, sinking a birdie on the second hold before a bogey on No. 9. She sank seven birdies over 54 holes, which ranked fourth among all golfers at the tournament.
Gardner-Webb will begin match play on Saturday morning, battling No. 2 seed High Point in the semifinals at 8:00 am. Live scoring is available
