Gardner-Webb Slotted at #3 for Upcoming Women's Tennis Championships

CHARLOTTE – The Big South Conference announced the seedings for the upcoming Women's Tennis Big South Tournament. Gardner-Webb was selected as the #3 seed for the event.
UNC Asheville earned the top seed for the tournament after going a perfect 6-0 through the conference opponents to win the regular season title. They defeated Charleston Southern 4-3 in the season finale to claim the title as each team entered the matchup at 5-0. The Buccaneers took the #2 seed with their 5-1 record. GWU was then the #3 with Campbell rounding out the field as the #4.
Just like on the men's side, the women's needed to go to the fourth tiebreaker scenario of aggregate match score against the teams tied at the position to break the three-way tie in third. Gardner-Webb, Campbell and Presbyterian all had 3-3 records, going 1-1 against each other. GWU was a combined 8-6 against Campbell/Presbyterian while Campbell was 7-7 and Presbyterian was 6-8.
The 2023 Big South Women's Tennis Championship will be played Saturday-Sunday, April 22-23 at the Marion Diehl Tennis Center in Charlotte, N.C. The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic big to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. The Championship schedule for next weekend is as follows and is subject to change:
Saturday, April 24 - Semifinals
No. 1 UNC Asheville vs. No. 4 Campbell, 9:00am
No. 2 Charleston Southern vs. No. 3 Gardner-Webb, 12:00pm
Sunday, April 23 – Championship
1/4 Winner vs. 2/3 Winner, 12:00pm
