Runnin' Bulldogs Fall To Camels In Extra Innings Sunday

BUIES CREEK, NC – GWU took Campbell to nine innings Sunday in a back-and-forth battle to decide the series.

The Camels hopped on the board first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning to go up 1-0.

However, the theme of Sunday's game three was responses. Gardner-Webb responded in the second with two runs to take a 2-1 lead.

Emily Garcia walked to get things started. Bridgette Strobl continued her successful weekend at the plate by hitting an RBI double to drive her in. Freshman pitcher Alli Stidham followed with a walk and then Alyssa Bonilla singled to score Strobl.

Down 2-1, Campbell added three runs in the bottom of the second to re-take the lead.

The score would hold until the top of the fifth.

Kasey Fava led off the fifth with a walk and stole second. Andrea Lyon doubled to centerfield and scored Fava to bring the 'dogs within one.

Campbell held on through six, but in the top of the seventh GWU rallied.

With the top of the order up, Fava singled through the left side and put a runner on with no outs. Annicka McLaughlin hit an infield single and Campbell threw the ball into the outfield, allowing both runners to score.

Down one in the bottom of the seventh, the Camels tied it up and sent the game into extras.
