CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb women's tennis fell to Charleston Southern, 4-0, Saturday afternoon in the 2023 Big South Conference Championship semifinal match.
The No. 2 seed Buccaneers took the doubles point, winning 6-3 at No. 2 doubles and 6-4 at No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 pairing of
Manon Delsol and Emilia Rosalind led 5-3 but that match was unfinished.
With the doubles point in hand, Charleston Southern closed out the win with three singles wins.
No. 5 Zoe Cauthen took a 6-0, 6-0 win to put the Bucs up 2-0 and No. 3 Now Boyd won 6-1, 6-2 for a 3-0 margin. A win at No. 1 singles by Luiza Fullana (6-4, 6-0) ended the afternoon and sent Charleston Southern into Sunday's finals.
It marked the second-straight year that Gardner-Webb had made a semifinals appearance. The Runnin' Bulldogs (7-9) advanced to the championship round last season.
